The Growing Trend of People NOT Saying Thanks

I come up to you and say, "Hey, nice shirt!" You say, "Thanks!" But when I tweet you and say, "Hey, nice shirt!" You...don't say anything. What's up with that? I've been seeing this "trend" more and more these days. It doesn't just happen with the 'big names', it happens with everyone. I RT and reply A LOT on Twitter. When someone replies to me, I reply back. When someone RT's something of mine, I say thank you. Take the common courtesies that you learned in your everyday life and use them in social media. You know, there's so much noise out there in the social media space that when someone reaches out to another person to agree, disagree or voice their opinion in some way, take the time to respond. Because they don't HAVE to say anything at all! Even if it's days later, say something back. When you talk to someone in the social media realm, whether on a Facebook status or a reply/RT on Twitter, think of it as if you're talking to that person in real life. Would you completely ignore someone who came up to you in person and said, "Thank you for that awesome blog post the other day." No, I doubt you would just ignore them. You would say, "Thank you!" That's all it takes. Just 3 seconds to reach out and say, "Thank you!" Or "You're welcome!" Or anything to show recognition of the other person. Social media is about being SOCIAL! So let's get back into the habit of saying 'thank you'. What do you think?
